Finally tried this place after visiting Coastal Fish and Porch and Parlor (related brands from my understanding). The decor was gorgeous, old Southern charm with dark, hard woods, chandeliers, and tufted booths. We had a reservation and they honored, about 10 minutes past time which was ok with us. We had a very friendly server who made great recommendations to us. I went with the Sea Bass with yukon whipped potatoes and a chopped salad (Romaine, Iceberg, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Black-eyed Peas, Bell Pepper, Celery, Grape Tomato Feta Cheese, and Green Peppercorn Buttermilk Dressing) to start. I also tried the Socialite cocktail which contained 1792 Small Batch Bourbon, Peach Liqueur Honey, Mint, and Lime. Really well mixed cocktail and the peach was a nice touch. I also tried The Memphian (because, duh) which had Huling Station Bourbon, Domaine Canton, Luxardo Cherry, Lemon, and Bitters. It wasn't as refreshing as the Socialite but was well made and was smooth. Everything was very good but I took off one star because the sea bass was lacking a bit in flavor and didn't seem as tender as I've had it in other establishments. Would absolutely return and try other menu items. I spent ~$120 including the tip. There is limited street and lot parking with complimentary valet.
Ok. I never give anyone five stars. This was totally five stars or more. Family dinner. Pasta was amazing. We added marinated mushrooms which made it even better. The appetizer pimento and cheese sandwiches were so different and amazing. Flavorful. Brussels and asparagus were pretty blah. Mac n cheese was good but on the dry side. Porch chop-- freaking amazing. Mashed potatoes were very good. Cocktails. The wine list was only so so. No holiday cocktails this year. Last year we liked the white cosmo. We subbed vodka in for the bourbon in the socialite and it was refreshing. The baileys flight was very good but disappointedly small. Salmon was five stars and this is a picky salmon crew. Totally a do over again and again. Service is always amazing. Alec was our server and he was awesome.
there hasn't been a time i've dined at Southern Social where i've had a bleak experience. once again, my family and I enjoyed our dining experience. the servers are endearing, attentive, and knowledgeable. the ambiance is dim inside but the patio is ALWAYS ready for you even in the winter. the flavor profiles for each meal were absolutely exquisite and there wasn't a sauce left on the plate! also, the manager here is truly one of a kind. he remembers our faces and is sure to show us his appreciation every time we stop in! yall are amazing!
Fantastic food. Good wine. Service was spot on. Our waitress, Caitlin was attentive and helpful. Truly enjoyed the dining experience and will definitely be back. Each of us got different food (sea bass, red fish, filet) and it was all delicious!
I think Southern Social has really great ambiance (sans the TVs at the bar which are, no matter where you go, tacky for a restuarant like this). Service was excellent and I for one appreciate a server who smiles- I don't care what you say... Foodwise - yeah not too shabby. We loved the fried pimento sandwiches though it was too much and they weren't all evenly sized (not sure why that irks me). The best thing we had was the pork chop. Very, very nice. Salad was good... the shrimp pasta was tasty but not special at all. They could've done more with that dish. All-in-all, a very nice Friday night dinner. We understand the popularity of this place. We'll also probably return...
Tomahawk Pork Chop. We were just stopping over in Germantown for the night. I popped open my trusty Yelp app for help. The restaurant has a really good vibe, felt like a neighborhood spot where everyone knew each other. Will was our server and did a phenomenal job. The food from the Brussels sprouts all the way thru the pork chop was exceptional. Great value for the quality and ambiance.
TL;DR: Really fun relaxed environment serving great food. The staff is a little green in both taking orders and serving but overall a good eating experience Ordered: - Deviled eggs and crispy gulf oysters (3/5): normally love both components individually so we ordered this thinking it would be great. Disappointed table :/ - Shrimp cocktail (3/5): average shrimp, nothing noteworthy - Fried pimento cheese sandwiches (4.5/5): GET THESE. Also get some other people to eat it with you. Such good flavors but that much fried bread and cheese gets heavy quick. - Chilean sea bass (4/5): Good sear on the halibut and pairs well with the sauce. Yummy fish dish overall. - Asparagus (4/5) - Pork chop with Brussels (4/5): cooked through but a little on the well-done side. Brussels paired well with the herb butter Will be back - cheers, Southern Social!
How cow! This is a high end, date-night restaurant bring your husband, boyfriend,, wife, maybe even your girlfriend to this wonderful place. It has BBQ dishes but is much much more than that. First, the staff are highly professional, doting and there are tons of them. The waiter, the room Maitre d' and many others speckled around the restaurant. They care! The music was barely discernible and might have been the bar Tv din reaching out table. The chatter was a little loud so that I had to talk loudly to be heard and place a cupped hand to my ear to hear. :-( Maybe the owner should consider heavy drapes or sound deadening wall and ceiling coverings. The fried pimento cheese sandwich was stupendous! It was fried to a perfect crispy crust, the cheese was melted to a velvety smooth dollop and served on a very shallow pond of toothsome sauce. The fried chicken was a show stopper, eating it was a drop-the-mike moment and truly one of the best I've ever had...by far. Perfect crust and seasoned and cooked just right, plus moist and very flavorful chicken. The tater tots were not so crisp, not much honey and the jalapeño specs were concentrated onto a few of the tots rather than applied to all or most. Suggestion to chef--brush on a light coat of honey then place in a bag with finely minced jalapeño and lightly shake. Just trust me. Try it. The biscuit was excellent --cooked just right and prepared with conscience and thought. Moist and some wonderful spread was a pleasant surprise. If go back!
